Maria is in her 40s and works long hours cleaning to support her family. She has two kids, Ana, 10, and Mihai, 7. Last year, a flood hit their home hard. “The water came in and took everything,” Maria said. “Our furniture, clothes, even the little food we had—it was all gone.” They had nowhere to turn. Maria kept going to work, but it wasn’t enough. “I saw my kids going to bed with empty stomachs,” she told us. “Ana stopped asking for school stuff, and Mihai just sat there, quiet. It hurt every day.”
